I can't think of a mightier shill for the right wing crap du jour than Yahoo News. Why? Because while other fawning sycophantic fluffers for the fascist corporatocracy (that is sucking what little life is left in American Mainstream Media) are barking from the rooftops like so many rabid dogs, Yahoo News is HUGE and gets delivered to anyone who has a yahoo email account.
THAT'S what makes Yahoo such a vibrant and nasty node of suckage.
Over time, When I have time, I will put screen shots here of examples of how Yahoo News is pure dreck.
I can't imagine MS would improve them, but it's hard to see how they could suck much worse.

There's worse. Check out Fox News sometime.
It's practically a wholly-owned RNC subsidiary. It's pitiful how they claim to have balance, just because they will put one or two hapless liberal commentators (Alan Colmes/Bob Beckel)up for a brief moment so they can get immediately dog-piled by the Fox news staff.
Yahoo! news is a total waste of time. It seems their only aim is to start controversial arguments in the comment section.
The list of horrible news can be usually fit into the following:
1.Kim Kardashian story
2.Middle East story (comment sections goes furious)
3.News that suggests things that you should do (honestly now that I think about it is just advertisements in the news section)
4.A sports related story(not so bad, but I would go to a different website for that news)
Nothing is more pathetic than Yahoo News.

I found your blog for obvious reasons.. Thing is you are looking in the bottom of the mucky pond and dissecting the diseased triple eyed frogs spawned from a troubled world being reflected from many viewpoints of jaded opinions.
I want to get to the bottom of it too you know, but I am just starting surface level here. I may have some ideas of where things went wrong but again I may be wrong. I need help finding these answers so he is my penny being tossed in your well as I hope and pray for my wish to come true. Please help enlighten me.

- First off its performance.
Totally sucks here. I think I have some of this figured out. Too many adds with Gif style (motion looped videos) eat up CPU usage. That first page with the menu I think almost 90% of all users probably wait for the add - The big one on top - to finally load so they can collapse it. This helps but with the usually double side bars as you scroll down loaded with motion videos and advertisements. This is main thing killing performance.
Problem here - desire to maximize commercial income vis. Advertisements and sacrificing any chance at having a usable product to house News / advertisements on.
Sub sec 1a-
Using video clips as thumbnails for 'articles'.
Again its the problem of the high CPU cost. Your computer will struggle to be following links embedded in these 'Thumbnails' to find the video / connect to it / play it in the allotted square section while also linking to often several others / advertisements which is why it is easy to notice as you try to scroll down the list of 'news articles' your screen will stick then jump and makes it very frustrating and unappealing to a user to search anything. Never mind click on an actual news subject out of curiosity.
Problem here - Trying for too much flash and bling for an already broken thing. Ie you may think putting a bright new red ribbon bow on a beat up rusty hunk of crap car will raise the price but in fact makes everything else look so much worse as you are trying to sell a car not a ribbon here.
Sub sec 1b-
Pop up news article.
When you click most articles a pop up style window is opened on top of the home page with a brief glimpse of the article subject. This is usually a few lines of text on the actual article along with a bigger photo link embedded or a video link.
problem here - Now your cpu is still running script in the background of the background while adding the new script on your superimposed window. Which again is like unwrapping a present to find you need a knife now to still cut open the box.. But far less exciting in that we rather toss the box away rather then go get a knife. ie. "Well it looked interesting, but do I really want to open another tab to a site like LA times that is notoriously just as bad for all the same above listed faults?" ... Nah thanks
- I would love to carry on but I do not want to highjack this fine and most wonderfully named page.. Like I said before I can begin to trash such news content as what so and so Kardashian was wearing and saying while juggling babies at the blah blah blah.. We really need to look first at the surface, dip our toes a bit before we dive to the bottom after those mutant three eyed frogs.
